Dear Arts Teachers,
One week until we see each other again! I have 4 important points of information for you all today, so please read through to the end.
Before we start let us all take a reminder from the great Lindsey Vance to breath-
CCC- Canvas Course Companions-
This summer ten of the art, music and theater teachers developed our curriculum into canvas courses for general art, music and theater. These pages will be transferable to your class courses to use or edit as needed for your students. The courses will start rolling out over the next week to be ready for preservice.
Technology for virtual learning-
This is great page to see all the different websites, software and application tools you can use for your classes. We are in the process of purchasing Smart music, Soundtrap, Quaver, and expanding Adobe Creative Suite to grades 6-12. Once those purchases are final we will notify you all to begin using. We are optimistic that they will be ready for the beginning of school.
Preservice PD-
Preservice week is Monday August 24th- Friday August 28th.
Each day will have focused information and training to prepare you for school opening on the 31st. The Arts content day will be Wednesday, August 26th.
Supplies for the Fall-
Supplies are coming! Our team has been hard at work getting various funding sources to ensure your students are able to have digital and physical supplies for your classes. We are optimistic that the various donations and DCPS purchases of visual arts and music supplies will be set soon.
For your planning purposes, we will have:
Visual arts kits of crayons or color pencils, and sketchbooks for all grade levels of students.
Elementary music we will have rhythm sticks and recorders.
Secondary ensemble courses will receive a limited number of portable music stands, trombone and trumpet mutes, drum pads, and snare sticks for at-home practice. A limited number of headphones will also be distributed for 6-12 music students.
These supplies will not arrive until closer to the end of September.
(Connected Schools and secondary ceramics courses will have some separate kits coming from some generous local funders, you will be individually contacted about these specific kits.)
